I believe this was Voight's 1st film, and Hoffman's 2nd. And after a combined 60 years of acting career, neither of these 2 actors has delivered a finer performance.

Gary Sinise copied the scene, in this movie, where Dustin hits the hood of the car and yells at the driver, in the movie "Forrest gump". Next time you watch Forrest gump, look out for that scene.

It's all the more ... ( 1 week ago by AnotherWiseAss)
It's all the more interesting in that while shooting this scene Dustin's infamous line "I'm walk'in here" was adlibed as the cab incident was real and not planned. It worked so good they left the incident in the film......I Wonder if that driver ever knew he was in the movie ? hummm....

It was not. It was all in the script. Dustin didn't do it on his own at all.
That's interesting ... ( 5 days ago by AnotherWiseAss)
That's interesting and odd, now I'm wondering and a little confused. I think the scene may be a little of both. I saw an interview with Dustin awhile back (don't remember where)and he said it just happened and they decided to keep it in. Perhaps it first happened while rehearsing and they wrote it in for the shoot.....let me try to recall and find that interview if possible and I'll get back to you on this....bottom line is it's a great flick and I'll always love it. One of kind !
I totally disagree ... ( 5 days ago by renew2day)
I totally disagree that it's much better than "Brokeback Mountain"; because I KNOW the country, the characters and their story.
Too much focus by Jay Leno, et al, was on the sex. The love they shared, all but ignored. It's as if some people just love to play with the sexual; but choose to ignore the love. Yes, two men can be in love. True from the beginning! The soundtrack won an oscar for the composer of "BB". I don't d
ismiss "Midnight Cowboy". I was an early supporter of the movie.
Array ( 5 days ago by Knoxvicious)
It is :)
But I was just watching the special features from the DVD and the producer I think went on to say he didn't do it, also on the commentary. I love Dustin though...

What do you mean by that?
Well knoxvicious, I ... ( 5 days ago by AnotherWiseAss)
Well knoxvicious, I found the interview and it's the Actors Studio one with Dustin and posted on YouTube by a few. If you go to part 6 soon into it Dustin tells the story of that line and it was as I remember a pure accident and human respose not in the script. To add more it was about the 13th or 14th take when it happened and they kept it in the movie.
I'm sorry, but ... ( 5 days ago by Knoxvicious)
I'm sorry, but watch the commentary or even go to IMDB or Wiki and it states that it was not Dustin's idea, it was all in the script all along. I don't know why Dustin would lie about it, or maybe he was just joking around and people took it seriously, but at the end of the day I guess we really won't know...
Knoxvicious, Well ... ( 5 days ago by AnotherWiseAss)
Knoxvicious, Well humm, this is a bit of a puzzler. I think what may be happening here is we are both right in a sense and what could have happened is the lines "I'm Walk'in Here" had to be put into the final dialog transcripts because they became part of the final movie.Producers are generally not on the shoot like a director so I would have go with Dustin's words as he was there and said them. Side note: I got to meet Dustin twice in New Orleans filming "Runaway Jury" in 2003 Great guy !
By that I mean I ... ( 5 days ago by renew2day)
By that I mean I grew up in an exact same society and country as did Jack and Ennis. I KNOW what the men were like and what the country and society played in their male psyche.
I heartily recommend you read the story by Annie Proulx. You will get an idea of the talent that lent itself to this great movie. Then, I hope, have some inkling as to why this film won Best Picture in "red" states, as well as "blue" states. It also won Best Picture awards outside the USA.
Just because you ... ( 5 days ago by Knoxvicious)
Just because you connect with the characters doesn't mean it's a better movie than Midnight Cowboy. I could say that about Fargo, being as I live in MN, but it's definatley not a better movie than others. I watched Brokeback Mountain also, and never cared for it...
It doesn't matter where the characters live. Yuo can connect with them all the same if you never lived where they did.
