They are called gobos, basically it's to control the acoustics of a room, or to isolate one sound from another. They get used mostly when a band all plays in the same room. For example, you would use it so the guitar microphone does not pick up the drums.

why is everyfuckingone so hyped over this kid? He's a good drummer but he's definitely for sure not the best. There are plenty more drummers out there that are much better and have been around much longer than Travis has. I agree he is one of the best MAINSTREAM drummers but not even. If you think he is the best for that reason, it clearly shows that you don't listen to enough music to understand true drumming.

In response to anyone asking WHY people think Travis is good:
I believe people that don't study music or play it are really impressed with his speed. Remember that not everyone understands what makes a drum beat "challenging." And besides, that doesn't matter it's how the music feels as a whole anyways. I used to listen to blink all the time when I was yo
